Free and open source · for Mac

Mark up your screen like a printout.

Your AI agent follows every mark.

Hold ⌥ A to start marking, drag with your mouse or trackpad to circle what you mean in any Mac app, and release to hand Claude Code, Codex or any chat a precise reference. No more typing “the button in the top right…”.

How it works

SeeThis lives in your menu bar. The app you are working in stays in front the whole time.

1

Hold the shortcut and mark

Hold ⌥ A to turn on marking, then drag around what you mean with the left mouse button, or with three fingers on a trackpad, in any app or window. Keep holding ⌥ A to add more marks to the same reference. In Google Chrome, marks remember their tab and page.

2

Release to get a reference

Release ⌥ A to finish. A local reference link is copied to your clipboard automatically, ready for agents on the same Mac, such as Claude Code or Codex. For web chats, copy the marked image from Inspector.

3

Paste and ask

Paste the reference into your agent with a short message. Write numbers next to your marks and say “1: …, 2: …”, and the agent knows which point is which.

Find any reference again

Every reference stays on your Mac, labeled with the app it came from and the time you made it. Open Inspector and pick one from the list.

  • Copy its link again to use it in a new agent session.
  • Copy the marked image for web chats.
  • View the details, or delete references you no longer need.
SeeThis Inspector with its reference list open: entries such as Google Chrome, ChatGPT and Claude, each with a date and time, plus Copy JSON URL, Copy marked image, View details and Delete buttons.

One reference, two numbered marks

Two circled spots, a 1 and a 2, and one line of text. The agent answered each point on its own.

Left: a document with a hand-drawn circle 1 on the value proposition and circle 2 on Channels. Right: the pasted SeeThis reference link, the one-line message, and the agent's reply addressing point 1 and point 2 separately.
Left: the two numbered marks. Right: the reference pasted into the agent, the one-line message, and a separate answer for each point. A real session from October 14, 2026. The 127.0.0.1 link is copied to the clipboard automatically when ⌥A is released and only works on this Mac. A third party's name is redacted.

While reviewing a document with an agent, I circled a sentence and wrote 1 next to it, circled a section and wrote 2, then sent one line:

number 1 is a use case, number 2 will it be better to create websites so that it can be used to do statistics and seo

The agent matched each point to its mark and answered both. One message instead of two paragraphs of directions.

Why not just a screenshot?

You can always take a screenshot and type a description. SeeThis is for when that gets slow: several points at once, small details, or the same spot again later.

Private by default

  • SeeThis does not upload your screen to a cloud service.
  • Reference URLs use 127.0.0.1, so they only work for tools on the same Mac while SeeThis is running.
  • A capture includes the whole selected display. Marks are not a privacy crop, so hide private windows first and check the image before you share it.

What you need

  • A Mac with Apple Silicon, macOS 14.2 or later.
  • Input Monitoring, so SeeThis can see the shortcut while another app is in front, and Screen Recording, to capture what you marked.
  • Optional: Automation access to Google Chrome, for tab and page context.
  • It is distributed directly, not through the Mac App Store, because the App Store does not allow Input Monitoring.

Not yet. The current beta is for Apple Silicon Macs on macOS 14.2 or later.

Does it update automatically?

Not yet. New versions are published on the GitHub releases page.

How do I give feedback?
